Jessica Hsuan - My Principles

Jessica Hsuan Suen is one of the few people in the entertainment circle who sticks to rules and principles. She will stick to her ground as long as she has a reason supporting her. Jessica states, "I won't do something I don't want to for money."

Jessica remembers, "Before, there was only black and white, right and wrong, this is a merit, yet it can also be a disadvantage. Now I can see the gray area in between. As the society and the environment changes, and when everyone is heading towards the same direction, I can not force the world to change for me. There are things in need of negotiating, but the unchanging principle is that: I will not do anything I don't want for money."

Jessica experienced lots of ups and downs in the entertainment circle, thinking back to the past; Jessica admits that she was witless. Jessica recalls, "A lot of dislikes and arguments, even though the person doesn't care, but because of my personality, I just can't hold back. The press used my personality to their advantage and made things much worse than they appear to be. I later discovered the entertainment circle's rules, there is no use in fighting it, and therefore I must find a way to find a balance. As people grow up they start to realize that flaws exist within everyone. There is no need to hate each other just because we have different personalities; there are many different types of friends."

VERBAL ARGUMENTS WITH MAGGIE CHEUNG

Jessica worked with Maggie Cheung Ho Yee on the series "Old Time Buddy" in 1997; this is the year TVB's "Top Fa Dan Everlasting Verbal Arguments" began. Jessica openly blames Maggie for frequently being late; Maggie fought back and reveals that there are constant "No Good" takes because Jessica had been laughing too much. These back and forth arguments lasted for sometime before TVB ordered the two to stop. The war of rivalry continued, the two raced to see who gets to functions first, showing their childish behaviours. Jessica says, "The arguments happened a long time, they are now part of the past and no one will remember it anymore. I felt grievance back then, I did not do anything wrong and yet I was blamed. Ten years later, I would not have handled the situation like that; I would not respond to the press, I will directly ask the person what they said about me.

DON'T MIND WORKING TOGETHER AGAIN

The continuous verbal arguments had been her turning point. Jessica reveals, "I had been pulled into the reality world and could no longer stay in my ideal dream world. I took the first step and started the process of realization. I was a care-free person before, thinking that I'll always remain that way until I was forty. Only when the incident occurred did I realize that no body can escape the process of maturing. I was stressed and didn't know how to handle the situation. TVB had originally planned filming the TV version of The Golden Girls, the girls would portray the two main leads perfectly. Jessica reveals, "TVB asked me if I felt comfortable working with Maggie Cheung again, I said no problem. I liked The Golden Girls and I feel that I can portray the character well." Jessica feels happy just by thinking about the idea.

FATHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP WITH DAMIAN LAU

Jessica's latest series The Drive of Life is now airing, she reveals that one of the main reasons she accepted her role was because she had the opportunity to work with Damian Lau Chung Yan. Jessica says, "I've watched his performance ever since I was little, he is very charming. He really gave me the "dad" feeling after getting to know him. We talk about filming and we talk about life, especially my personality and ways to handle things. Damian says I remind him of his youth days; we're both strong, stick to our principles and will defend ourselves for the right reason. He gave me useful pointers so I wouldn't be in his footsteps."

Since entering TVB in 1992, Jessica has had various arguments and problems with other female artists; it all seems to be because Jessica wanted to "stick to her principle".

NOT REGRETING GIVING UP ON RONALD WING

There can never seem to be a balance between career and romance. Her past boyfriends include: fellow actor Dicky Cheung Wai Kin, businessman Ronald Wing Man Hon, and orthodontist Kevin Chan Kin Wai. In these past years, Gallen Lo Ka Leung, Louis Koo Tin Lok and Joe Ma Tak Chung all made it on her rumored boyfriend list. "Louis and Joe's rumors were the reporter's "gift" to me, the rumors are hilarious. Of the three relationships, her relationship with Ronald Wing lasted the longest, they dated for six years. Those were Jessica's busiest years. She thinks it was unfair to Ronald because he had dated her in those years.

WANTING MARRIAGE AND A FAMILY

"I promised him (Ronald) to go on vacation with him, then the company called and I decided to work instead. My career was ranked #1, my family #2 and friends come after that. I don't know where to place my boyfriend. I have no regret for my past decisions. If I had wanted to get married I would have already done so, I chose the entertainment circle." The Jessica now wants to obtain a balance. Jessica says, "I want to have marriage and a family."

NOT EASY TO BE #1

Jessica has filmed over thirty series for TVB in the past years. The highest record was having four series airing per year. In 2000, Jessica fell ill when filming A Step into the Past, she had to be hospitalized for eight days and absorb twenty four packs of medical packs. "I worked continuously until I started vomiting and felt very weak. I said to God, I can return all my possessions to him; I didn't want my house, car and money anymore. I only want health. Every since then I learned to slow down my pace and realized that other than work, family and friends only need me." Jessica now has reduced production, signing only per series contract with TVB, releasing one series per year.

Most I loved seeing her in was in Step Into Past, Parental Guidence (singaporean drama) , Just Love I&II, Golden Faith, Good Match from Heaven, Lady Fan, etc. But most renound and most cute dramas was mainly DIF IV (pairing with Louis Koo) Golden Faith (pairing with Gallen Lo) Parental Guidence (pairing with *forgot the name*) & Step Into Past (another pairing with Louis Koo)
